Before starting unit three I will review the content of unit two and review the new spelling test past tense verbs.

 

I will ask the class how we ask a question about a past activity. They should come up with did and was questions. I will ask some simple questions using the past tense verbs that everyone knows such as, ate, drank, went and played. Then I will ask the class what word is in all the questions. That will help explain the use of was/ were and did/ does.

 

Next we will read and learn the activities on page 13 at the bottom.

Then I will draw some more pictures and the class must tell me how the people are feeling, for example, Food – I’m hungry. When the class are comfortable I will move on to do you questions. I will ask the class to tell me as many do you questions as they can think of. Then we will turn to page12 and recite the chant – Good citizens, stand up tall.

 

We will spend some time reviewing and practicing the pronunciation of the past tense verbs in the back to the book. Last weeks, and this weeks spelling tests, are all past tense verbs. We will read the chart then play some games to reinforce.

Finish reading the story – Is Polly a good citizen? (Page 9) After reading I will ask the class some questions and help the class to think about logical questions about something rather than just answering the questions.

We will review rules and must/ mustn’t then I will ask the class why? Why mustn’t we talk in class? The reason is because if they talk they can not hear the teacher and they wont be concentrating so wont learn. We will look at the rules on pages 13 and 14 and I will ask the class why we can’t do these things. There will be plenty of new vocabulary so once we have given reasons for the six park rules everyone will copy them into their writing books.

We will review was/ were and present continuous and them put them together to form past progressive. Last week we orally did page 46 so today we will complete the page. Once everyone has the hang of it we will move on to page 47 which adds “while.”

Unit 5 of Spin, p. 45, start one and two syllable adjectives comparatives. I will ask the class what an adjective is and then explain that we use them to describe things. I will draw an animal on the board and we will collectively describe it. Then I will draw another animal that looks different and we will describe it again. Finally, we will compare and I will show the structure of comparatives.

Most of the class knows that questions end in question marks. Apostrophes can be confusing, so I will attempt to explain when they are used. Once everyone gets the hang of it we will do page 4 in Grammar Practise together.

    I will start off by asking the class what their favourite food is. We will write all the food items on the board. Then I will ask how much they want, some students will start to say quantities and then I will introduce the new vocabulary. After, we will read page 6 in Spin to reinforce.

    Make flash cards of the quantities on page 6. Last week I introduced the class to them but it was clear that most did not understand. We will draw the food item and quantity separately then play a matching memory game to reinforce.

We did not have a spelling test last week as I wanted to give the class more time to become familiar with the adjectives. We will make them into comparatives and write sentences. Finally, the class will copy the sentences into their writing book.

We will brainstorm adjectives and write them all on the blackboard. Next I will draw two pictures and we will use the adjectives to compare the pictures. After, I will pick a student to do the drawing.

We will play a game to practise the spelling test words.

For the second half of the first lesson we will do page 13 of Spin – Time Clause: When. I will draw a picture on the board of a thirsty boy and I will ask the class what they can see. Then I will ask why he is thirsty and they will see the sun above him and say he is hot. I will restructure their answer to I get thirsty when its hot. After a few different pictures we will complete page 13.

We will warm up by reviewing high numbers such as hundred, thousand and a million. Then we will look at currencies such as dollar, yuan and pound. I expect the class already know most of the vocabulary for the chapter so we will quickly review and practise how much is

I will ask the class what is a noun Then we will write many on the board. Some I expect will be singular and some plural. This will lead up to Spin pages 28 and 29.
