Focus: How to count wild animals up to 20. Integrate what they have learnt so far about descriptions: size, colour and appearance of parts of body using following vocab to build sentences:  How   There is … /There are …  It has … /They have …  It can / can’t … 

Activities: 

(a) Check homework – Grammar Practice Book page 10 – they were to fill in the questions in Book C, then write the answers to those questions in full sentences in their notebooks. Eg. 1. There are eight kangaroos.

(b) Book A – page 15 & 16. Students to stick the stickers of a kangaroo, a panda and a penguin onto page 9 of picture dictionary. 

(c) Spelling words to learn for this week: a kangaroo, a panda, a penguin, wings, trunk, arms, nineteen, twenty, jump, restaurant   

Homework: Write spelling words 4 times each.

(c)   Book B – Page 12 – extended activity – they are to write another sentence connected with each number. Eg. It is in the water.

FOCUS for the week: Introductions, greetings, identifying and naming people correctly and politely.

Monday

Back to school. Focus on Introductions, getting to know each other, especially our names.

“My name is T _ _ _ _ _ _.” Students to guess what is the teachers name by calling out letters of the alphabet. (Point is to highlight that names always start with a capital letter and see how well they remembered the alphabet.)

“What is your name ”. Students to write to guess each others names by writing down first letter and partner guesses the other letters. (Check to see if students know how to spell their name with a capital letter.)

Students to make their own name cards.

Alphabet ball game. Teacher starts asking “Who’s name starts with A .” Student who’s name starts with A get the ball when they answer “My name is …”, and continue like this through the alphabet.

Tuesday

Greeting Activity - Students are given a classmates name card. They are to find that classmate and greet correctly using their name.

Students to start a Classmate Alphabet in their notebooks. Starting with the letter A they are to write down all classmates names that start with A. Classmates that start with A are: Angela, Amelie, Apple, Amy.

    (h) Introduce singular and plural nouns. Get students to look at picture of a sweetshop … pretend they are buying something there (pg 42 from teachers book). “May I have a ______ please.” “May I have two _____ please.”

    (i) Writing new words from pictionary. Then have students change them to plural by adding “s”.

    (j) Pages 13 & 14 in Welcome to English Book.

    (k) Students to write down names of some toys they have at home.

    (l) Introduce new vocab: a pen, a pencil, a ruler, an eraser, a sharperner, a pencil case … place stickers in pictionary and write new words. Introduce use of the article “an” to be used before a noun beginning with a vowel eg. An eraser, an elephant.

    (m) Introduce colours. What colour is this “It is red.” What colour are these pens “They are green.” (use visual on p. 127 of teachers book) Explain difference when to use “It is …” and “They are …”

    (n) Pages 19 & 20 in Welcome to English Book.

    (r) Introduce new vocab: skip, read, climb, swim, draw, write. Put stickers in picture dictionary at back of Book A and write out the new words.

    (s) Pages 25 & 26 in Welcome to English Book.

    (t) Introduce and write down some other verbs of what you can and can not do eg. Sing, drive, fly, cook, etc

Homework: write down three sentences of things you can do and three sentences of things you can’t do (yet). Eg. I can climb. I can skip. I can draw. I can’t swim. I can’t drive. I can’t cook.

(d) Food : using flash cards students to first say if the like the food to their classmate then ask if their classmates likes it too. Eg. I like apples. Do you like apples Yes, I do. … He likes apples. She likes apples. Do you like apples. … We all like apples. Do in chart then report back to class when teacher asks each group.

(cc) Warm up – how am I feeling from looking at my face. Write on board then students given a facial expression and classmates to describe how he looks. Eg. He looks happy. She looks angry.

(dd)Funny faces – match the words with the faces of Calvin – silly, tired, mad, bored, noisy, wondering, thinking, rude, angry, afraid, scared, happy

(ee)Put the pictures of story in replica panerai watches correct order and describe how Calvin feels from his face expression.
