We will start by practising the present continuous tense, adding ing to a verb. In pairs the students will ask each other what they like doing in their spare time, in school, at home, in the park and so on.

Next we will read the puzzles on page 7 and solve them together.

Last week many of the class got confused with like and likes. They know the normal pattern but when there are two verbs in a sentence it confused them. For example, what does Paul like doing Normally after a name it would be likes but due to does using the “s” like doesn’t need it. We will practise this for the second class until it is clear to all.

This weeks spelling test will combine like and likes and the present continuous tense. The class will copy a series of questions and answers and sentences describing what people like to do.

After a quick review of the past tense I will introduce the past progressive tense. What were you doing before This combines both the past tense and the present continuous. After some examples we will read page 5 in Spin.

I will write on the board one thing that each student likes and does not like. Next I will ask the class if you made a new friend what would you want to know about them. Finally, we will complete page 3 in Reading and Writing. After, I will ask one student to draw a person on the board and give some information about that person. Then we will write together about the character, including his/ her age, likes and name.

We will start the new chapter in Welcome to English but first I will ask the class what they usually do at the weekend. What will happen next

I will try to find some examples on the internet of TV programmes which have “What will happen next” something will happen then it will freeze. The class must guess what will happen. Using will and won’t we can predict the may happen. After some guesses we will watch and see. If there is no internet we can do experiments like flipping a coin or tossing a book in the air and guess which side will land up. After, we will read page 6 of Spin. If there is still time we will read page 7 too.

We will start the new chapter in Welcome to English but first I will ask the class what they usually do at the weekend. Once everyone has said some activities I will ask them if they ever go to the park and other things. I will encourage them to use ever and never without explaining much. After we will open the book and read the conversation and see how ever and never are used. After practising the six pictures we will put them into a question and answer structure.

We will reinforce when to add s or es to a verb and also differentiate between do and does. This will lead up to homework. I will explain that when we use he/ she and it we add an s, but some verbs we must add an es such as go – goes. Using the verbs that will be in the homework; go, meet, like, tidy, finish, take and look I will write a series of sentences on the board that the class must solve. After we will practise do and does.

This weeks spelling test will include the same questions and answers as last week and also the same 12 verbs. In class we will put the 12 verbs into sentences.

We will review will and won’t and draw some more pictures on the board to guess what will happen. A student will come to the board and draw a picture, and then we will brainstorm all the possible outcomes. The class will vote and discover if they are right or wrong. After, all the wrong wills will be reversed to wonts. Finally, we will read page 6 of Spin.

We will quickly review could and couldn’t and talk about when we were babies. Then we will read page 7 of Spin and see other examples of how to use could and couldn’t.

We will discuss families, how many people in your family, who is the oldest and who is your favourite. Then I will draw a family on the board and we will use comparatives to compare them. Finally, we will read page 9 of Spin together.

I will draw a picture on the board and get the class to talk about the picture using comparatives. After we will brainstorm adjectives and that will lead onto superlatives. I will add an extra character to the picture and change the adjective. We will practise then complete page 11 of Spin. If there is more time we will continue Spin.

The class knows about sentences and paragraphs but we will go into more detail about the content. Page 14 of Spin is about writing a descriptive paragraph, I will explain to the class and we will do together.

Before starting pages 21 and 22 we will talk about TV quiz shows. The most famous in England is Who Wants to be a Millionaire. I will ask the class if they know about it, if not I will explain. Then we will read pages 21 and 22 and do our own version of the game. They can phone a friend (classmate), 50/50 and ask the audience (the class).

Finally, we will review the past tense verbs on page 12 of Pre-task and that will be homework.

Depending on the outcome of last weeks spelling test either I will give the class the new words or we will practise together the old ones.

We will look at last week’s creative writing and talk about how to improve and brainstorm to form new ideas. Then I will give them the new topic for their homework. We will discuss possible ideas of what to write about. The new theme for homework will be an alien school. On a cold winter morning you arrive at school early and are shocked discovering that all the teachers are in fact aliens!

First we will review the new vocabulary and then MOST and SOME and use page 26 to talk about how people used to live.

Next we will look at how we live today and compare to how people used to live. We will discuss some topics such as, food, entertainment, transport, money, sports, drinks, clothes, language, electronics and games. Then we will draw two columns, one for 500 years and one for today.

We will creative some sentences using the words from the spelling test. I will combine this with a topic from creative writing to make the sentences more interesting. Also we will write in paragraphs and make a story. We will read about animals in Reading and Writing on page 17.

64. Thursday.

(c) Activity:

I will give the class their new topic for their creative writing and we will brainstorm together and I will help give them an idea about structuring an essay.

We will read the poem on page 34 called “My Dream Holiday” which uses the future tense. Then we will play a game to practise the grammar of the pictures below; as … as and not as …. as.

Monday 15.12.08: Pre-task pages 15 and 16.

Tuesday 16.12.08: Reading and Writing page 19 and learn for the spelling test.

Wednesday 17.12.08: Copy the spelling test mistakes five times each.
