Shangnan Grade 1 Teacher: Ric/Krist Week 10 December 10-15
Monday.
Textbook reference: Superkids
Focus: Review ball activities, colours, sizes and animals.
Activity:
At the start of the class after the initial group practising of learned words and phrases, go one by one around the class with the flash cards. The students must either tell me the question or answer the answer. For example, “this is a big, blue elephant” the student must say,” what’s this?” and visa versa.
Teach “Is it..?”
Explain what the term means first. Using flash cards of animals ask the students, “Is it a cat?” They must answer, “Yes, it is.” Or “No, it isn’t”
Play a guessing game to reinforce.
Phonics: Ss Zz
Wednesday.

Focus: Review is it… yes, it is/ no, it isn’t
Activity
Go around the class one by one asking, “Is it a …?”
Review the phonics from Monday Ss and Zz. I don’t expect we will have covered many words on Monday as there is a lot to review and teach.
Start unit 4.
Teach drinks – water, juice, milk and tea.
Use flash cards and play usual flash card games.

Activity:
Practise the drinks and include is it….
Teach the food – bread, cake, chicken and candy.

Play word snake to practise letter recognition and phonics. We can also do a verbal version of the game as the kids most likely cant write the words!

Who this and what’s this?
Animals – a and an
P.15 Last 10 mins
Activity:
Start class by practising the simple Q+A that they have learned so far. What’s your name? How are you? How is he/she? What’s this? Who’s this?
Using flash cards practise the animals already taught and introduce snake, cat and rabbit. When the students get the hang of “it’s a …” show them the elephant and teach “an elephant”
Depending on the speed of above if time teach big and small. The elephant is big and the mouse is small.

Focus: Big and small, long and short. Boy/girl and teach’ student.
P.16 Phonics-s,z
Activity
Practise all the animals. In pairs one student asks “what’s this?” the second answers, “it’s an elephant”
Pick another two students, this time they must ask, “is it an elephant?” “Yes, it is” or “no, it isn’t”
Check to see what numbers the students know.

Focus: Numbers, animals, sizes and shapes and colours
Activity:
Play bingo to practise numbers. Also play beep 7.
Review big/ small, long and short and all the animals. Teach the sentence structure, “The elephant is big and blue.” See how many sentences the students can form using different colours and animals.

(November 19 – 24)
Monday.

Focus:
Review family members, this is my father etc, he is my father etc.
Introducing ones family
New vocab big little short long
Activity:
Play a game to practise all the grammar and vocabulary.
Teach the question, “tell me about your family?”
“In my family there is my mother, my father etc.”
Teach "me too"
Draw some pictures on board that are big little short long and get students to call out when I point.
Wednesday.

Focus:
Practising the verb “to be”
I am, you are, he is, she is and it is. Animals snake, an elephant, a cat, a rabbit
Activity:
Ask a student what is their name. They can easily reply to this, then point to another student and ask what is his name? Emphasise he is/ she is ….
When the students understand that, ask ‘what is my name?’
Teach “you are”
Animals from p. 14 a snake, an elephant, a cat, a rabbit.
Students can imitate animals up front of class. HA HA
Play tick tack toe with drawings of people and animals and give them all name tags. To gain the square the student must say, “he is ….”

Monday.

Focus: Back to basics, personal details and reading
Activity:
Review;
What’s your name? What’s his/her name?
How old are you? How old is he/she/it?
Where do you live?
What’s your telephone number?
What school do you go to?
What class are you in?
Who is your teacher?
Practise in pairs then come to the front and introduce your friend.
Homework: Listen to the tape of the story.
Tuesday.

Focus: Chapter 6 – sports day p. 19
Sports and present continuous.
Activity:
Brain storm sports, write as many as the students know on the board. Explain what a race is and talk about sports day. Does Shangnan have a sports day?
Draw some people on the board doing activities; ask the students what they are doing. Emphasise ing!
Make sure I cover running, jumping and eating.
Teach – shouting, waving, watching and winning.
What is he/ she doing?
He/she is running.
Ask the class what are they good at?
Write the answers on the board. Make sure the sentence structure is clear.
“I am good at running, but I am not good at swimming”
Homework: What are you good at and what are you not good at? Write 3 sentences in your notebook.

Focus: Present continuous and he/she
Activity:
Following on from yesterday check to see what the students remember. This time ask them, “What is he good at?”
“He is good at ….”
“What is Susan good at?”
“She is good at ….”
“I am good at running, but I am not good at swimming”
Read the story on page 19 and 20.
Homework: Write in your notebook the answers to the questions at the top of page 21.
Focus:
Continue from Wednesday practising “to be”, Animals and review of teacher student boy girl
Activity:
Review family members and the verb “to be.”
By now the students should know, I am, he is, she is and it is. Explain that they are all singular. Now teach they and we, they are and we are.
Introduce negative forms.
He is not Ric.
She is not a teacher.
It is not a rabbit.
Students can imitate animals up front of class. HA HA

Focus: Review who/ what, a/an, big/small, long/short and colours
Activity:
By combining all of the above the students should be able to say, “This is a big, blue elephant”
Using the flash cards pick two students, the first asks what is it and the second answers.
Introduce the new animals – snake, elephant, cat, rabbit and frog.
Create sentences describing the new animals.
If still time review pick up/ put down, throw and catch, roll and bounce (these have not been covered so would require a lesson)

Wednesday.

Focus: Ball activities
Activity
Review “ball” pick up the ball and put down the ball.
Teach throw and catch, pick two students to throw and catch a ball whilst the class follows.
Teach roll and bounce.
Again, pick two students to act.
Review all six commands and weather permitting go into the playground and practise and play a game.

Focus: Numbers 1-30
Activity:
Number off around the room to make sure the students can count 1-10. Play some games where the students name the number in order to gain the square.
See how high the students can count. The student who counts the highest wins a prize!
Teach the number the students don’t know.
Play bingo.
Play beep 7 if time.
